What do you use?
« on: May 31, 2007, 05:58:45 PM »

What do you use to make all the 'fancy' swirls and such on brushes? I made a few brushes for my use out of a really swirly font and chopped off parts of it, added a slight shadow and made it to a brush.
When i say swirls i mean things like http://celestial-star.net/brushes/download/75/ and other similar designs.

I believe that set of brushes was made out of fonts as well. At least it looks very similar to a font that I know of...

However, when I make swirls and such for my own personal use, I normally draw and then scan them in, or I use Adobe Illustrator to make them. Or a combination. Sometimes I will draw something I like, scan it in, then "digitalize" it by tracing over the designs with Illustrator.

Well, I can't really name an specific fonts (like I said, I draw and vector my swirls), but I always download my fonts from http://www.dafont.com/. There are some pretty awesome fonts there, I'm sure you can find some that would make good swirls.

I plan on trying out the drawing method first lol i would rather do it that way so they are my original work. Do you know of any tutorials for pspx to change them to vectors?

For PSPX, use the pen tool to trace over them. ^^ That's all I do in Illustrator, trace over them. I've done it in PSPX as well, before I got Adobe. It works pretty well, though it takes a bit of practice to get the pen tool down.

O.O

That's lovely! I would certainly download and use a brush pack like that, and I know another who probably would as well.

Very, very nice. ^^
