I know this is a ridiculous question and it's probably not even possible, but is there some sort of way to write on a slant without using an image editor?

heyy =] if you mean using something like simple 'paint', no i think you would have to do each letter seperatly and place them diagonal.
if you dont have a editor...download ms paint..(the new version) free and you should be able to type horizontally and then turn it doagonally after the whole text is selected? x

you could try writing a table with 1 row and 1 column for each letter?

Please for the love of semantics, don't do that. Not only is it horribly incorrect, it would also result in very bloated coding. To answer your question simply, no, there is no HTML means of diagonal text at present and I very highly doubt there will be -- so use images my friend (don't forget your alt text).
