Transparent Scrollbars
« on: June 22, 2006, 10:37:23 AM »

I know how they [should] work, but although I've done everything exactly according to the tutorial they appear to not become transparent. Here's my code:

Code:
body
{
scrollbar-face-color:#000000;
scrollbar-shadow-color: #000000;
scrollbar-highlight-color: #000000;
scrollbar-3dlight-color: #000000;
scrollbar-darkshadow-color: #000000;
scrollbar-track-color: #000000;
scrollbar-arrow-color: #FFFFFF;
filter: chroma(#000000); height: 0px;
}

I hope someone can help me......

[Edit]Just in case: I've not solved the problem, but I'm now using iframes so that I can use them anyway... therefore, I'd still appreciate if someone knew the solution to my problem, but it is not necessary anymore.[/Edit]

What browser are you using? That only works for Internet Explorer, I believe.

I said I did it according to the tutorial, plus I've seen sites using them, so of course I use Internet Explorer [at least for that, anyway]...

Ah, okay. I didn't remember that that was in there....

I looked over the tutorial, and I can't see any reason why it shouldn't be working... >.<

You know, that was very rude, you're asking for help and giving attitude to the person trying to help you. If you wanna get help you need to have a mutual respect for people trying to help you.

I actually thought that too when I wrote it, but I posted it anyway because that, uhm, "hint" was so... I mean, it's like I wonder why my TV doesn't work and someone asks whether it's plugged in... I mean... I'm sorry, but I'm not that stupid.

No offense, but there isn't any harm in checking the basics first. I wouldn't want to try all the ways to fix your TV, only to find it wasn't plugged in in the first place.

I didn't mean to insinuate that you were stupid, but sometimes things that that are easy to miss, and it never hurts to double-check.

Well, maybe I'm just too easily offended then. At least I got SOME answer... the first time I asked nobody seemed to care at all, so.

you're not stupid, but just checking in case you forgot, is the bg to your page black or some other colour?by doing that, you're not making the bar invisible but simply of the same colour so that it appears invisible

Uhm... it's not black. It's a picture of different colors.

Well then answer me this, if you're so 'smart' then why are you asking for help? People are trying to assist you, even though they don't have to, yet all you can do is be sarcastic to them. They tell you a possibility as to why the problem might be happening, and you give them attitude, I wouldn't be surprised if they told you where to go because of it! Nor would I blame them!

Vangs, could you try to calm down a bit? It's really only between me and him, and I don't really care. It's not that big of a deal, and we are still trying to help him.

Anyways, I found a tutorial on a different way to create transparent scrollbars, from pootato.org, if you wanted to check that out and see if anything in that helps:

Hmm... thanks, but it seems to be quite the same actually. The first one works, but it makes the frame transparent, too, so it's rather useless... the other one is the same as on Celestial Star, so the parts that are supposed to be transparent simply become white [still, I have no idea why; I can view transparent scrollbars on other websites though]

If you're using it with an iFrame, and that iframe has an image background, you will need to put that background on the table cell that contains the iFrame too or it will just show your page's background color. Like this:

Code:
<td background="yourimagebg.jpg">
<iframe ...

Please be polite with the people trying to help you, we're not experts, we can't know everything, still we try to help other people because we want to and feel like doing it.
