Oh look! People!
Request a Tutorial
«
on:
September 25, 2007, 04:08:33 PM »
I've seen quite a few threads in this board that are all asking for basically the same thing: a tutorial. While most of the time what the tutorial is about is different for each thread, it's still a bit of a waste of space. At least in my opinion.
This thread is so people can request a tutorial be written. Anyone who is interested and knows enough about the topic to write that tutorial can do so and then post it as a
new topic
in this board.
Not as a reply to this thread.
Try to give as much information as possible when asking for a tutorial, that way people know what you are talking about. Let us know exactly what you want to learn. Give examples or screen shots if possible. If we don't know what you want to learn, then we obviously can't teach you.
Also, make sure the tutorial you are asking for hasn't already been written or requested, please.

Good idea for a thread! I'll make an offer to make tutorials based on any coding languages I'm familiar with. Assuming I have adequate free time that is.

Here's my request. You know when an iframe layout has those scrolls onto the image and when you hover on them, it's like a scrollbar of the iframe layout, is there a proper CSS code for it or do I have to use javascript? If it is not applicable with CSS, please just help me coding it with javascript.
Please help me with this feature. I hope I explained it well. I haven't really seen much iframe layouts with this feature @__@. So please help me.
Thank you,

The only scrollbar effects that can be achieved with CSS are coloured scrollbars in Internet Explorer and Konqueror, this is because it is actually invalid CSS which Microsoft invented during the browser wars. As-such, no other browser has adopted it's usage because it isn't part of the CSS spec.
I don't personally believe that web designers should have any control over the users browser such as styling their scrollbar, but I know of the javascript effect that you're talking about. If you give me a few days, I'll contact the person who I last saw who had it, and ask them for the script. Afterwards I'll attempt to write a tutorial on how to use it -- but it should be pretty self-explanatory.

Thanks Vangs =]. I hope I can use it as I have this thing about iframe layouts. So that's why I just stick up to my normal DIVs and Tables D=

I've just spoke to the person and instead of sending me the script, they've linked me directly to the site. No point in providing a tutorial whenever the site can do a better job than I would. Lol

Do a version with and without the scrollbar, and include it in the zip file. I don't know whether Melfina will like the scrollbar effect or not, but if she doesn't she could remove the html and js file. If she does, then it gives the public the option of using the layout with or without the scrollbar effect.

If the layout can still be viewed with the major browsers and by an user that doesn't have javascript enabled, it's perfectly fine.

I have a request. How to draw pixels. I mean, you can teach yourself yes but it takes a lot of time to learn the basics. I am -somewhat- progressing in the making of pixels but it would really be much easier if someone were to post a tutorial on how to do something simple.
Thanks again

Okay. For the pixels...what exactly would you describe as simple? Because I can make a tutorial if you can elaborate just a little more.

Well maybe simple wasn't the right word. I was looking for tutorials on any type of pixels. NOT on how to make pixel dolls, I would much rather see something like "how to make your own pixel mood theme" or like how to pixel cute little things. Necessarily a simple tutorial, I figure drawing pixels isn't that simple anyway.
Just something that is a start into the world of pixel making.

Making realistic ribbons and swirly things in photoshop
you do NOT want to see my lame attempts.
A friend of mine suggested pen tool to make the swirl and then stroking it. Then adding a gradient to it, making parts partly transparent and then burning/dodging parts of it.
Gonna try that tonight and see if I can do it.
