Pagination...????

So I'm working on a design site, and I was wanting to add the

< | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | >

At the bottom of my avatars page, and I'm assuming you do this through pagination but no matter how much I look and no matter how much I try, I just can't comprehend how I'm suppose to do it...I try doing the tutorials, but they're just so confusing...

so could someone help me??? Please...

Have you had any experiance with MySQL? If you haven't, I can understand your confusion. And even if you have, it's still understandable. o.o

The pagination tutorials you found probably dealt with PHP and MySQL, and were probably assuming that you were trying to add the pagination to something that was already in a database. To make the pagination work, you need to use databases.
