those latest images are honestly breath-taking. they look cold at first (with the blue) but when you really start to look at them, they're not cold...yet they're not completely inviting either.

I think that the second image you posted ('even the smallest person...') could be a little lighter though - its hard to see anything of the image except the font and outside part of it. Other than that, well done all around fo the images ^^

All of the effects you use look terribly cheap and cheesey.  And also for the first two; all you did was brush.  That doesn't exactly take talent.  I'm not saying you should quit or anything, but I definitely think you should be trying your hardest to get better instead of just getting tackier.  All of your things are quite overdone.  I'm terribly sorry if this sounds harsh, just trying to be constructive.  Dx

i dont like fancy borders, as i might have mentioned before.i don't know, maybe you do, but personally i think when they're too flashy, it takes the attention away from the focal.

the two images are almost the same, maybe you want to make a series or something, but even then, try to vary a little more. maybe have the same style of making the image, but not exactly the same bgs :\ also, you might want to increase the opacity of the girl(s) or bring them forward more. i think the renders for the first one is okay so long as its in the bg and complementing the whole image and not sticking out, but the second one's renders are overkill for me.i love renders and all, but mostly i prefer them without a stock, as abstract. thats cos they pull attention, and in an image with a stock, you dont want that.

the ripple thing is cool and all, but if i were you i'd tone it down.also, the colour of all blue isn't very nice.you don't have to use other colours, but try to have a wider range of blues...what you used are almost the same tone. so it gets bland, and also confuses the eye.ah and the roses in pic 1.nice rose, but doesn't fit.if you're trying to get a reflection thing, like i said, make the ripples not to condensed, more widely spaced, and make the roses smaller, or even better, scatter rose petals, as though they were floating on the water.ah and try to add some depth to the images by putting them at an angle, or perspective.that way it isn't so "in-your-face"

i guess its like what hamstress says.they look tacky and cheesy and cheap.its got too much of "tutorial" written over it...and the only one that can help you to really break away from that is yourself.so try to explore more instead of following tuts strictly and find your own style.preferably a style that doesnt rely too much on tutorials.and without extravagant borders and symmetry and one-way bgs too XD

EDIT:at least you know how to do renders.i dont know how to do them, and i don't have the program for it either.

Hmm..looking back, I guess, I didn't do too much different, even though it had been MONTHS since I had the hrs needed to sit down and do all the cutting.

I will admit I am not all that good, but as I in real life hate frilly things, that aspect comes out in my designs.  I don't for the most part like crowded, but I do like frilly, hence the backgrounds.

I like the first Shaiya one a lot...the second one is nice but I think that the colors might be a little off for that image in general. I think maybe...having the background be a gradient going light to dark with the characters themselves might have worked better but I do like it. =)

so you like the lasso, fine by me. thing is, lasso doesn't get the job done as well as the pen tool. the edges of the extracted images are still rough, and it can be avoided if you'd used a pen tool.i feel mean here, being one of the only two people who're actually putting you down.

in both the new wallpapers, its as if the only thing you really put much effort into is the extracting (i dunno how difficult renders are so let's leave that out of the picture, i have no rights to say how good/bad the renders are).and even that didn't look impressive.the bgs just fill space, and for no.2, its simply the cloud effect from ps.also there's too many things going on in it. sometimes, when matched well, busy-looking is okay.but somehow you didn't pull that off, and all the three stocks grabbed for attention, especially the unfaded ones.the font didn't match, and was placed at an awkward place.

also, another point.these kind of images with the 3D game style are difficult to use. they have a sharp distinct quality that unless you can replicate, won't look good in a wallie, at least not as good as it can be.

Yeah, its been a while since I posted, so I will respond to Pache's critique

You are absolutely right.  When I look back at it, its like, wow...did I do bad.

I still actually like using the lasso tool, though now I have used the pen tool, but still not as often.

Extracting renders can be a trial, as for many of them, you have to get fairly close, and going cross-eyed can be a chore

Here is a few of the latest:

Yeah it has been a while - Been really busy writing of all things Yaoi  (Blame Gravitation...it did it to me!) and haven't been designing too much

Few new things that I have been making for aarinfantasy.com as well as some signatures for my in-game husbands are:
