I was reading xXChemicalDreamingXx's request and i tried to make the tutor.*i'm late* I hope this helps. =D

Open the image and duplicate the layer


Click Filter --> Sharpen --> Unsharp Mask, set the radius to 0.5
Click Layer --> Exposure
Change the Offset to +0.0184


Click Layer --> New Adjustment --> Color Balance
Click Shadow and set Cyan to -60 and Blue +40
Set the color balance layer to 85% and screen mode
the image will be like this..


Click Layer --> Gradient --> Set the angle to 35.
Change the color of the gradient. In this image i used purple but you can change it if you want to. =) set it to Screen mode.


From the texture pack, i used "latexsig6.png"
Cut the texture and the image will be like this.

You can cut whatever you like. =D

Open the texture again and set it to color burn. Now you see the color is a bit darker. =)


Layer --> Solid Color.
In this image i used #fdcf94. Set the layer to multiply and opacity to 40%.


Layer --> Brightness and Contrast
Set the contrast to +50, and you're done.


You can add some writings or add brushes to the image if you like to. =D
And you don't have to stick to those steps if you have something interesting.
*Perhaps the tutor is a bit complicated, sorry..*

if you don't want to make it too bright, you don't need to set the color balance to screen mode. :D~
no offset will reduce the brightness too :D~

How did you get white borders around him?
