How to make an avatar in Photoshop My Way =D

Ok so this is my first tutorial I EVER made! I hope it could be of some use to anyone here :lala:
So lets start
Step 1:
Open your Photoshop. (kyaa so hard)
I'm useing CS2.
File -> New
Width: 100 px
Hight: 100 px
Resolution: 72
Color Mode: RGB Color 8 bit
LOL you did it! Yay!
Step 2:
Making the background
Now there are two ways of making it.
1. You can get it from a texture or pattern pack. A great place for those is
http://www.deviantart.com
2. You can make your own.
I chose the second (I'm just not lazy today
)
Select the "Rectangle Tool (U)".
Choose some colors (I'm useing: #000000; #FF5AA5; #F49AC1; #BA1A60)
Start making vertical stripes.
This is my result:
Now take some kind of paper texture. File -> Place
I used this one:
And set the layer to Multiply.
Merge Visable (Shift+Ctrl+E) and your background is done.
My result:
Step 3:
Makeing the polaroid
"Shake it like a polaroid picture" :rockin:
Make a new layer. Layer -> New -> Layer...
Again the "Rectangle Tool (U)".
For best result choose #FFFFFF(white).
And make a rectangle shape smaller than 100px around the center.
Then Layer -> Layer Style -> Blending Options...
These settings:
Mine:
Step 4:
Place the pic
Crop and place your pic inside the polaroid.
My result:
Step 5:
The text
Before the text, take the "Rectangle Tool (U)" one last time and make a little rectangle on a new Layer.
I used the color #FFB0D2.
Then Edit -> Free Transform . Rotate it to your liking
I made it like this:
Take the "Type Tool (T)" , choose the color (mine is #FFFFFF), the font (I like 'Rockwell Extra Bold'),
size and style (22pt; Crisp).
Then Layer -> Layer Style -> Blending Options...
These settings:
They are the same as before =)
And you are done!
This is my final result:
I hope you liked my first tutorial =D
I'd be happy to hear both your opinion and see your finished work
Thanks for reading

Whoa the tut was very nice
I love the background, but I'm too lazy to make my own, so when I'm doing your tut, I chose a texture to be the background.
Anyway, thanks:D

What is that you seek? Perhaps it is a knight from a faraway land. What is that you seek? Perhaps it is a shore that will save you from an eternal swamp.
However, there is one thing that I seek. What I will merely obtain will either be the shore or my death.

Reading this tutorial is worth it.
And yeah, I've tried the tutorial and here's my result.
