Misty Glow Tutorial
« on: September 24, 2007, 04:10:34 PM »

p.s. I know this is a simple effect but please don't flame me or anything -feels noobish Annoyed-. I also chopped this tutorial down in steps so people who just started photoshop or something will understand what I mean Embarrassed. Anyways, i hope this tutorial helps you or broaden your knowledge about some photoshop effects.

Also, please contact me if you want to use this tutorial for your site too as I want to be credited Kiss. r o f l.

Have fun!
- Straive

Step One: Open Photoshop
Step Two: Go to File >> New or CTRL+N
Step Three: Follow these settings [you may change the width and height although if you are following my tutorial, just go ahead and copy it Annoyed]

Width: 500 pixels
Height: 350 pixels
Background Contents: Transparent

Step Four: Choose two different colors the should be lighter and the other one should be darker.

Step Five: Go to Filter >> Render >> Clouds. You should have something like the image below.

Step Six: Go to Filter >> Brush Strokes >> Accented Edges and choose the following settings:

Once you've done that, your image should look like this:

Step Seven: Now go to Layer >> Duplicate Layer. Now you should have two layers.
Step Eight: To add more nifty effects, go to Filter >> Blur >> Motion Blur and follow these settings:

Angle: 60 degrees
Distance: 40 pixels
[you may change this as you wish. besides, this is a tutorial. time for you to experiment new things Kiss]

Step Nine: Now change the blending mode to Overlay and save your final product.

I got this:

Using it onto an image: I will be using this image...

Now open your texture [CTRL + O or File >> Open] and copy the texture on top of the image you will use.

Now change the Blending Mode into Hard Light.

And Voila! This will be your final result.

My Notes and Suggestions: Here are some suggestions i've made throughout the tutorial...

- If you want more of a glow, use Gaussian Blur [Filter >> Blur >> Gaussian Blur] and set the radius to 8 pixels then set the blending mode to Screen with 50% opacity then change the blending mode again to Overlay with an opacity of 100%. This is how mine looked like:

- Adding patterns such as the scanlines works well with this texture. Just try giving it a try and it'll come out nicely Kiss
