Easy Fake Vector
« on: July 06, 2007, 12:34:57 AM »

Everyone wants to make a vector. But it takes forever! Here's is the simpliest way out there to get the full vector effect in just three easy steps!

1. Open your image that you want to vector. I will use this one of Ayumi Hamasaki.

2. Go to Filter>Artistic>Cutout. In the window that pops up, zoom the picture out a bit so you can see what is happening to it. Just mess around with the settings a bit until you get a look that you like.

No. of Levels: Lower numbers make it simpler. Higher numbers make it more detailed.
Edge Simplicity: Lower numbers give a more detailed shape. Higher numbers make the shapes larger and out of proportion to the picture.
Edge Fidelity: Sharpens the edges of the shapes.

Here are the levels that I chose:

3. Now save the image and you are done! Here is my final:

It may not be the real thing, but it is pretty darn close!

That is pretty close!  I do like to take my time though, and get as detailed as I can.  Funny thing is, I'm not that great at it!  Embarrassed

This has been bugging me for some time now. How do you define "Vector" in image-editing anyway?

Nelson. Probably by using the pen tool and such and like coloring it into pieces? I don't know...seriously Annoyed

I like this effect =D

Can I also add something that can support this "vectoring effect". I think it'll be more of a realistic vector if you use the filter "Poster Edges" and choose these settings:

Edge Thickness = 0
Edge Intensity = 0
Posterization = 6

p.s. you may change the settings. but these are the settings I just used Annoyed

Then repeat the cut-out process with the same settings.

And you'll get this...

Preety much the same thing. But this gives more of the edges for the fake vector. Annoyed
