DIV pages.... Menus
«

Okay say I have my little page going with it's divs and whatnot. And I have the usual 'content' div and a 'menu' div. When I want to change something on the menu frame (such as a new affiliate or 'listed at' or whatever), I have to change it on EVERY page right? Is there anyway that I can get around this? How do others! I'm guessing it's PHP includes, but I can't use them. Is there any other way?
Thanks xx

Yep, most people use PHP includes. There is such a thing as SHTML includes. Here's a page on them:
HERE
The first info bit on Server Side Includes is the one you want. =)

You could always put an Iframe into the navigation bar, and then when you need to change a link, you can change the page the Iframe includes. ;)
Eg:
Code:
<div id="navigation">
<iframe name="navi" src="navigation" width="100%"></iframe>
^^ Then just put all your navigation files in navigation.html. :P

that's what i was gonna say. if you're using plain html it's gonna be hard when you don't use frames.
i don't think many people use that shtml.. i tried that before but it's harder than php.. at least for me yea.

I did SSI once (my old hostess had both), but I found PHP was just an all-around better way to go, of course if you have no access to PHP and SSI is all you've got, it's definately better than nothing...
I've also heard there are Javascript includes, though those are unrealiable if the user has Javascript turned off (which alot of people do, according to my site's statistics)...

Thanks for your help, I will check out that tutorial! And yeh my server doesn't have PHP (Yay for me). I was trying to avoid using I-Frames because I apparently they aren't valid or something. Who knows. Thanks for the help!!

Iframes are valid, but older browsers don't support them (but then again, most of the same also don't support CSS). They're really not so bad, especially if you're in a situation like that, where without them you'd have to edit every page...

Yeah I've just gotten back a review from a review website and I think I'm going to go with the div layers for my individual page and keep my menu as an I-Frame. That means my main 'frame' or layer as it will be soon will be able to resize but because the menu won't have to it will be okay as an I-Frame..... if you get where I'm coming from?!
My server doesn't have SSI either! :P I'm on $0 hosting with a domain at doteasy.com lol.
Thanks for all the help
