Div Layout Coding help

So I followed the tutorial for a basic div layout and everything is working perfectly for me except.........the linking part...

in the <a> do I have to add anything???  If I just leave it the way it is it brings up my link on a whole new page with a white background.  Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

what exactly do you want to type inside the anchor <a> tag? You must add href="thelink" to direct the user on the page

yeah wow I must have had a brain spasm while typing this.......

yeah I meant to say a href = "mylink.html"
if I just leave it as this it brings up my link on a whole new page.  How to I get it to open on the index?

simply, you just need to type target="_top" inside your <a> tag

target=_top will change your current page. Although default anchor will open in the same page if you didn't add target="_blank"
