CuteNews Help
« on: October 03, 2005, 06:19:43 PM »

Hello. I had just transferred everything on CuteNews onto my server using FTP. I don't know what to do next!
I want to use this script for the "# comments" thingy. Examples would be on Celestial-star.net and Aethereality.net.
Please, can anyone help.....? All I want is a simple comment form + comments on the page/on a popup. Nothing major.

Wish I could help, but I am looking for the same answers. But, if you only care about pop-up comments then I refer you to http://www.haloscan.com/ they privide a free service with adds and a $12 yearly service with no adds. Why don't you check them out?

If you read the instructions it will tell you how to enable that feature. I don't use CuteNews anymore so I don't know how to tell you step by step but I know that its either in the configuration of the script and where that is located its shown on the instructions.

So, do you want to use cutenews or haloscan?

I'll assume cutenews from here. The news won't pop up in a new window (though I think it can be done with a certain code, if you check the help forum, though simply using haloscan, as mentioned, would be easier) but it'll open in a new page inside your whatever layout. It'll be below the entry, like if you typed "blah", it will say "blah" then "blah comments". Whatever, I'm too confusing.

Simply put, you can just use haloscan. There is help on the site too, but if you are stuck, and need a beginners help, I can help with the basic css and installing. (that's pretty much all I got, except the no errors yet for me bonus)

ince I can't think of anything, I'll just admit that I've spent like 10 minutes trying to think of a signature. As you can see I had no success.

Yea I suggest you use haloscan because Cutenews is good if you not only want the comments, but the blog as well, and it would take time to edit the blog part out each time.

I'm sorry to bring up the old topic again but I've been looking around designing sites for help with Cutenews and so far no one's provided any help.... some are acting as if I'm stupid or something so... I'm asking again.. .^^

I recently started trying out Cutenews for my personal site - http://akaliane.net - I got everything to work except for one thing--- the comments section.  Though enabling comments is pretty easy, everytime I click on it, the whole layout of my site are all messed up--- wtf....? -.-

I've tried everything--- resizing the divs of the comments and the news itself but nothing seems to be working....

I'm looking into the coding but can't seem to find the problem. There is certainly something wrong with the coding there, I'll try and find it, but I may not be able to find it.

Just notice this: the problem's in either the comment template or the form, try and look into that to see if you find any open divs or a missing td tag or something like that. On the meanwhile, you can always use the enable popup for comments option that comes with cutenews ^^;

I'm sorry I'm not able to help you more at the moment.

Hi Melfina!

You helped me a little bit there--- I went to check my form templates and it turns out (and a very simple mistake too--- embarrassed---   ).  I remembered that I removed the tables on the form and I forgot to delete the closing tags at the bottom of the form, which caused the mess on the whole layout lol   ... I think it was because I was coding this late @ night and I wa shalf asleep... LOL.

I think I can figure out the rest from here on... thank you very much!  8)
