I'm a big fan of Gunslinger Girl, FLCL, Witch Hunter Robin, Hell Girl, and Serial Experiments Lain. I also have the first two disks of Red Garden, but it's kind of weird--like the main characters randomly burst out in song, but it's not a musical--so it might not appeal to some people.

As for manga, I'm too dumb/lazy/whatever to read them properly, so I tend to stick with anime, when I have time.
