A Question for the Admins of Celestial Star
« on: June 19, 2008, 10:30:46 PM »

I was wondering what you used to allow members to submit avatars and all the stuff that they can, was it a component or was it some kinda code. I'm asking because I'd love to get my graphics website to do the exact same thing but I don't know how you did it. If you could let me know that would be great!

It is a custom-coded PHP script that Melfina developed. It uses the native file handling functions of PHP to upload an image from your computer onto our server, then archive it in the correct location.

Have a look at PHP.net's Handling file uploads - Manual. Smiley

Thanks Vangs, but do you know if you could get it to work with mambo instead of wordpress? I'm just asking because wordpress confuses and I get how to do mambo. I don't understand PHP (it confuses me) So I was wondering would when you get it completed would the php files become a mod/component? I'm getting kinda confused, thanks to whoever answers this ^^

I'm not sure on how Mambo runs, I've never used it. However what I will say is that if you're not able to answer your own question already and you don't know PHP that well (if at all), then don't try to make it. A file upload system is a pretty advanced piece of coding and if done incorrectly, it can leave you open to all sorts of malicious attacks.
